In keeping with our philosophy of putting our client first we always seek to educate our clients in the areas that we feel are important to their future. To this end, we are building up a recommended reading list that, we hope, will make our clients better informed of the financial world around them as they strive to build their own financial plan.
The Ascent of Money – Niall Ferguson
This is not just a finance book. It is a historical finance book reaching back to the Spanish explorers of South America and coming all the way up to the modern economic battles between the USA and China. An extremely well written book that was made into a very successful Channel 4 series.
The Dream Manager – Matthew Kelly
We recommend this book to all our clients before they set out to draw up their own financial plan. Based on a true life USA company (with names changed) it forms the foundation stone of any self development and planning process and it deals with the subject that we all overlook – ourselves and our own dreams.
Super Freakonomics – Steven Levitt & Stephan Dubner
Be prepared to be astounded and surprised where even the most simple of trends can develop into an economic storm that impacts, in many cases, the whole planet. A great read, even if you are not into business and finance books.
Buffett the Biography – Roger Lowenstein
To say that Warren Buffett is a legend is an understatement. This biography charts his life from his formative years as teenager when he operated a series of pinball machines to the intricate way he has affected many of the the big powerhouses of US industry. A long read but well worth it.
Too Big to Fail – Andrew Ross Sorkin
This is an outstanding book which gives the inside track on what really was going on at an international government level as well as the decision making and errors that happened within many of the multinational financial corporates. Not just a history of events – even though it is factual, it reads like a thriller. Unputdownable at times!
